| Good for an amateur piece of kit.: Rating: 4/5 |
I bought this camcorder a little while ago to use as a small note taking camera for film ideas, and to gather material for drawing and painting.
It is very easy to use and delivers very good results for its size. It really does fit into the palm of your hand, and most of the controls fall easily into place. I really like the joystick operation in playback, and find it very easy to use. Battery life is a bit short, but you can buy another one pretty cheaply and have one charging while the other is filming.
The image quality is fine - I view mine through a flat screen Phillips TV. You wouldn't buy it to make high quality movies, but then you'd be paying a whole lot more if you did!
I had no trouble getting my version of Windows Movie Maker (Win XP) to see the camera and download footage for editing, and I have also used Adobe Premiere Pro with it.
Build quality is very good (I have been using Canon video equipment since super 8 days and have always been happy) and the zoom lens is quick and reasonable off the tripod. On the tripod image quality improves a lot at high zooms, as the tripod controls the wiggling about!
You can improve the sound quality by plugging in an external microphone (even a cheap clip-on mic will make things so much better than the on board one - this is true of pretty much all small camcorders, as they pick up handling and motor noise as well as the sound you actually want!)
I'm looking to replace this camcorder for a high end model, but it will almost certainly be another Canon.
All in all I would recommend this camcorder. |

| Great kit - lightweight and easy to use. Great features. Would lilke longer battery life, but that is a common request for many of today's gadgets! Would recommend this camcorder. |
| Canon rewind problem: Rating: 1/5 |
Before buying any Canon miniDV camcorder check the internet for Canon rewind problems.
I've just started to suffer this on my MV530i and have discovered that the same problem occurs on other Canon camcorders including the GL2.
After recording a tape the rewind works fine until it's about two thirds back and then gives a remove tape message. To comple the the rewind I have to do it by hand.
In common with many of those complaining my camera has had minimal use but of course is out of warranty.
I'll never buy a Canon again.

After trying a compact video camera I decided to plump for this tape machine. I was advised that this would give me the quality and flexibility I was looking for.
I have not been disappointed. It handles well, gives a good, sharp picture and easy access for showing on my home tv or computer. A great machine! |

| This is an excellent Digital Camcorder for the money. My daughter needed on to link to her Apple Mac and this does it with no problems at all. |
