| Product Description |
| Panasonic's DMC-LX3 offers a level of quality rarely achieved by a camera in this category. Its Leica lens is stabilised, giving you not only a wide-angle range of 24mm (35mm equivalent), but also a huge aperture of f/2.0. You won't need to use a flash either, because the DMC-LX3 takes the most amazingly bright, well-exposed photos even in the lowest lighting conditions. The DMCLX3's 16:9 sensor can be adjusted to 3:2 or 4:3, and improved noise reduction ensures you're as silent as a mouse when shooting. A number of manual modes give that traditional film finish, while its Auto Intelligent mode selects settings according to your subject's movements. The DMCLX3's high definition mode captures up to 24 frames per second. And if you really do feel it's worth using a flash or an external lens shield, you can - taking the DMC-LX3's capacities in full sunlight even further! The Lumix DMC-LX3 has certainly made a name for itself in the world of photography! |
| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: 5.0/5 | | Very good optics, learning curve kinda rough.: Rating: 4/5 |
Superbright lens is its best ace.
Not so good: ergonomics / handling and menus. Far better is the dial in Canon's than the LX3's joystick. Short zoom makes a lighter camera, streety pictures on its way.
Nevertheless, a win for about 360. If less, no doubts: go for it! | | Lumix Not for everyone but great for me.: Rating: 5/5 |
I have had my LX3 for a couple of weeks now and I am delighted with it, pictures are crisp, it copes well with difficult light in its intelligent mode and its a pleasue to use.
Out of the box the camera oodles quality and in use everything feels in the right place and built for the job, it has a quality click and feel to switches and buttons that make it a pleasure to use.
The fast and wide lens is the reason I bought this camera, mainly wanting it for social occasions, street / travel and landscape photography. I have a second compact with a longer zoom so the very short zoom is not an issue.
It is horses for courses.
I think the most important thng for me is the results and the joy to use are such that it makes you want to pick the camera up and use it.
Grumbles, it should have had a wriststrap in the box, come on, it cost me a couple of quid from ebay, but it should have been in the package, and no case, not such a biggy as these are a bit more of a preference issue, but the camera is to expensive to drop in a pocket with nothing to protect it from bumps and scrapes.
I have been playing with cameras and into photography for over 30 years, if you have a history or using SLRs and like a quality picture, but don't need a long lens, this is the camera for you. | | Nice camera.: Rating: 4/5 |
| Definitely a nice camera. Easy to use and brilliant pictures can be got without complex adjustments. | | Helllo LX3, Goodbye dSLR!: Rating: 5/5 |
Was looking for a 'holiday' camera to do away with the need to lug around one of my Canon dSLRs, which are lovely to use but are heavy and not exactly discreet when it comes to street / candid photography, for example. I also needed something which could shoot RAW. So, having read all the reviews of the LX3 - not least, those on this site - I decided to order one. This arrived most promptly, thank you Amazon, and I am utterly delighted with it. The small size makes it perfect for carrying, although, it has to be said, I would not class this as a pocket camera as such - especially if, like me, you go on to fit a converter so you can add a filter to protect that lovely Leica lens.
The camera performs wonderfully well, if you remember that it doesn't have a great zoom range. Don't buy it if you're looking for long lens functionality - it only zooms to the 35mm equivalent of 60mm. But at the wide end (24mm) it's a dream, and the macro function is especially useful - in this setting you can focus as close as 1cm from your subject.
A word of caution - well, two, actually: first images on your PC monitor from the camera may appear under-exposed. The camera does appear to have a slight tendency to do this, but that's not a problem if you're planning to post-process, espcecially if you're shooting RAW. Better that than blown highlights, which cannot be recovered. Which brings me to my next word - unless you have Photoshop CS5 or equivalent, you'll have to process your RAW files using the supplied Silkypix software, which is fine as it goes. I haven't got into all it can do yet, but it does allow me to create a TIFF file which I can then work on in Elements.
The LX3 is a great camera for a walk-about. It is also technically superb. I'd recommend it to anyone. | | Best Picture Quality: Rating: 5/5 |
| Excellent picture quality. I've compared the LX3 to my old Canon 860, my mates Canon SX200 and a Canon EOS450D, doing back to back picture tests, all at the same settings, zoom etc. The LX3 is hugely better than the first two and only slightly worse than the EOS, which is a full-on DSLR. Resolution and colour accuracy and great. I'm really impressed with this camera. Downsides? Well it's early days, but the interface is not as slick as Canon compacts, neither is the picture upload to a PC. The lens cap is a bit of a pain. Other than that, great! |
